"Flutterby Dreams" - A Baby Quilt by Jenny B

This cot quilt, "Flutterby Dreams" was made by Jenny B for a new baby girl that arrived in her family in late 2012. Made in a variety of pink & white fabrics, the quilt features digitized butterflies stitched in white.

The design of the quilt was purposely placed off center to create more interest, & the quilting was worked in diagonal rows, following the diamond pattern of the blocks,  to emphasize  the placement. The quilting was also purposely stopped at the edge of the butterflies so as to not detract from the embroidery.

The butterfly design is one that Jenny developed herself from an existing free design. Only the basic outline was used, while the detail of the wings were changed to make it appear lighter and more delicate. Start & end points of the components of the design were also changed to eliminate the many jump stitches in the original.

Have we got any soon to be Mums, Aunties, Grandma's, or Great Aunties that would like to make something similar? The digitizing is a little advanced  for a beginner sewer but there are other more simple ways to create a butterfly quilt. Why not join our group to find out how? Our next meeting is:-
